Liverpool after a successful season under Arne Slot is escalating its process of strengthening the squad. After securing Florian Wirtz over the summer, the Reds are reportedly setting out to secure a striker for the upcoming campaign.

After a few rough seasons with Darwin Nunez upfront, Slot might look to switch things around at the centre. Moreover, with Newcastle wanting to escalate things with Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak could be closer to an exit from St. James’ Park.

Alexander Isak: Liverpool’s Dream Target

Liverpool has identified Alexander Isak as their top target to replace Nunez, who is reportedly attracting interest from Napoli. Isak, who scored 23 goals in 34 Premier League games last season, is seen as a “dream signing” for the Reds.

The Swedish striker’s future at Newcastle remains uncertain, with The Athletic’s David Ornstein stating that while Newcastle have no intention of selling Isak, they are waiting to “see what he wants to do” as pre-season discussions unfold.

However, after the latest reports from Romano about the Magpies wanting the Eintracht Frankfurt striker, Isak could be heading for an exit. Liverpool and Slot who remain certain of wanting a striker emerge as the clear favourites if the 25-year-old leaves.

Newcastle’s transfer strategy appears ambitious, with recent signings like Elanga and potential moves for Ekitike. For Liverpool, the situation presents both opportunity and risk. While Ekitike is a viable target, Isak’s proven Premier League pedigree makes him the priority.

Merseyside will have to cut over £130 million to sign Isak. After signing Florian Wirtz for the record fee (£116 million), Liverpool will have their biggest summer ever in terms of expenditure in their pursuit of Isak.
