Lionel Messi Scores Stunning Brace in Inter Miami’s 4–2 Win Over Montreal

The win over Montreal lifted the Herons to sixth spot in the Eastern Conference with 26 points from 15 matches.

Inter Miami fans had plenty to cheer about on Wednesday night as Lionel Messi delivered a dazzling performance. The veteran scored two aublime goals and assisted once in a thrilling 4–2 victory over Montreal at DRV PNK Stadium. The win was a crucial one for Miami as it marked just their second triumph in their past eight MLS outings.

Messi opened the scoring in the 27th minute after a smooth setup from Sergio Busquets, his longtime Barcelona teammate. Busquets not only provided the pass but also cleverly screened the defender, giving Messi time and space to curl home his seventh goal of the season from distance. The Argentine maestro was at the heart of everything Miami did well as he linked play superbly between midfield and attack.

Messi and Suarez Propel Inter Miami

Inter Miami controlled most of the match and doubled their lead in the 68th minute when Messi weaved his way past Montreal’s backline before unselfishly laying the ball off to Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan striker made no mistake with a brilliant finish. Just three minutes later, Suarez struck again, this time capitalizing on a defensive lapse to make it 3–0.

Montreal, who sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with only one win, managed to pull one back through Dante Sealy in the 74th minute. But Messi wasn’t done yet. In the 87th minute, Suárez returned the favor, setting up Messi for his second goal of the night and Inter Miami’s fourth. Montreal did get a consolation goal in stoppage time via Victor Loturi, but the outcome of the game had long been decided.

This victory comes at a critical juncture for Inter Miami, who are preparing to embark on their FIFA Club World Cup campaign. They’ll face reigning African champions Al Ahly on June 14, following one more MLS fixture against Columbus Crew this Saturday.

However, there was concern for Miami as their injury list grew. Veteran left-back Jordi Alba was forced off in the first half with a lower-body injury while Gonzalo Lujan and Toto Aviles also limped off.

Despite the defensive concerns, Messi and Suarez revitalized Miami’s attack. The win lifted the Herons to sixth in the Eastern Conference with 26 points from 15 matches, giving fans hope that the team is finding its rhythm just in time for the FIFA Club World Cup.
