Leicester City vs. Newcastle – High Stakes Game As Leicester Fights Relegation, Newcastle Seeks a Top 4 Spot

Newcastle United will look to keep their European qualification hopes up as they have 50 points from 29 games. They trail to fourth-placed Chelsea by three points and have two games in hand in the Premier League. Currently being the favourites to earn a Champions League spot, Newcastle will take on Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Monday.

The Foxes have struggled all season after earning promotion from the Championship last year. Having managed only four wins and five draws from their 31 match days, Leicester City are in a hole too deep. Manager Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side is on an eight-game losing streak with their last win coming against Tottenham in January.

The last time Leicester City managed to take points from Newcastle United was in 2021. The Magpies beat Leicester 4-0 in the reverse fixture in December. Newcastle United Injury News

The Magpies faced Brentford at St. James’ Park on Thursday. As they managed a narrow 2-1 victory, a few of the Magpies players were seen limping. Manager Eddie Howe addressing the injuries of Kieran Trippier and Alexander Isak as he said:

“We’ll wait and see today. I had medical updates yesterday but I will see them [Kieran Trippier and Alexander Isak] for the first time today.”

“We don’t think we have any big injuries from Wednesday night but we certainly have a few niggles. We are monitoring Anthony [Gordon]. He is still recovering from the really bad knock he got for England which still has a bit of bruising on his leg.“

Howe also ruled out Anthony Gordon for their contest against Leicester implying he’s still yet to recover. Talking about Gordon, Howe said.

“Anthony Gordon hasn’t returned to full training. He’s still recovering from that knock he picked while playing for England. He’s done individual training but not attended group training because the bruising on his leg is still there”

Leicester City Injury News

Leicester City has not had significant struggles with injuries this season. With their main absence being Abdul Fatawu due to a knee injury, Van Nitelrooy will have most of his prowess at his service for the game against Newcastle.

The Dutch manager has expressed a chance of being able to improvise in the final eight games. Deducting the long path ahead for the team, Van Nitelrooy believed everyone at the camp would have a role to play. Talking about the work that must be put in, Van Nistelrooy spoke in the pre-match conference saying:

“That requires a lot of hard work from the whole team. I feel I want to go through this with the team and the staff, stay connected with them, fight through this as people and give energy every day to get ourselves out of this. For me, it’s not something I want to run away from, I want to fight with the squad.”

“That’s every day, leading into Monday’s game. It’s another opportunity for us and we can only hope for some support in our stadium.”

Leicester City if fails to turn things around could be the second club to be relegated this season following Southampton’s record exit. The Foxes will have some tough fixtures like Liverpool, Brighton and Nottingham Forest to overcome if they are to save themselves in the top flight.
