Learner Tien and Nuno Borges Set for Paris Masters 2025 Opener
Learner Tien will face Nuno Borges in the opening round of the Paris Masters 2025. Tien has enjoyed a stellar season, reaching a career-high world No. 36 in September and currently sitting at No. 38. Earlier this month, he made his maiden ATP main-draw final in Beijing but fell to Jannik Sinner in straight sets. He also reached the quarterfinals in Hangzhou, though inconsistency caught up with him in Shanghai, where he exited in the fourth round.
Turning professional in 2023, Tien has steadily made his mark at Grand Slams this season, reaching the fourth round in Melbourne and becoming the youngest to do so since Rafael Nadal (2005). Other highlights include quarterfinal runs in Acapulco and Mallorca. On the stats sheet, Tien has hit 182 aces, won 68% of his first-serve points, captured 42% of break points from 327 opportunities, and won 27% of return points.

Borges, by contrast, has had a steady but less flashy season. The 2019 pro lifted his first ATP title at last year’s Swedish Open with a signature win over Rafael Nadal. In 2025, Borges reached career-high third rounds at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon, along with semifinal appearances in Auckland and Challenger Phoenix. He also reached the quarterfinals in Marrakech, Estoril, and Libema. Borges’ stats include 327 aces, a 71% first-serve win rate, and 36% break-point conversion, though his 29% return-point rate.
