Garima Ranawat

The Aces lead the series 1-0.

The 2025 WNBA Finals shift to Game 2, with the Las Vegas Aces hosting the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday, October 5. The opening game of the league’s first ever best-of-seven finale series saw the Aces clinching a narrow 89-86 victory over the Mercury. A’ja Wilson’s 21 points and 10 rebounds, and Dana Evans’ 21 points and two rebounds led the charge for the hosts. Apart from them, Jewell Loyd and Jackie Young finished in double-digits with 21 and 10 points, respectively.

On the other hand, the Mercury were led by Kahleah Copper’s 21 points, four rebounds, and one assist. Satou Sabally dropped 19 points, four rebounds, and four assists, while Alyssa Thomas chipped in 15 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. The Mercury were in the lead for most of the game, but in the final quarter, the Aces turned up their defense, breaking their rivals’ momentum. Moreover, Thomas ended up missing a couple of free throws in the end, which snatched away victory from their hands.

Nevertheless, there are six more games remaining in the series. While the Aces would want to extend their winning streak, the Mercury desperately want to get a win in order to even the score before action moves to Phoenix.
