Mbappé’s Record-Breaking First Season: Ranking the Top 5 Goal Scorers in Real Madrid Debut History

Kylian Mbappe scored the opener in Real Madrid’s 3-4 defeat to FC Barcelona on Sunday. Bagging a hat-trick in the El Clasico, the Frenchman marked his 39th goal for the Los Blancos across all competitions this season.

This achievement in his first year at the Spanish capital means Mbappe is now the highest goal scorer for Real Madrid in his debut year. Surpassing the record set by Ivan Zamorano in 1992/93, the Frencham is already starting to appear in the history books of Real Madrid.

Real Madrid’s Highest Goal Scorers in Debut Season

Mbappe has joined the company of elites on the chart following this achievement. Surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo’s 33-goal tally in April, the Frenchman now sits at the top of the newcomers’ goal-scoring list.

Here is the list of the top 5 goals in their debut season with Real Madrid:

RankPlayerSeasonGoals Scored
1Kylian Mbappé2024-2539

3Cristiano Ronaldo2009-1033
4Ruud van Nistelrooy2006-0733
5Ronaldo Nazário2002-0330

With some of the elite strikers of football like Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ronaldo Nazario also on the list, Mbappe has proven his standards are not to be taken lightly straight from the start. Struggling to pick up the pace at the beginning, Mbappe is now safely leading the Pichichi Trophy race with 35 match days gone.

Being one of the most prolific forwards in modern football, goals have come in abundance for Mbappe throughout his career. Leaving as PSG’s top scorer with 256 goals in 2024, the 26-year-old has set course to chase down records at Real Madrid now.

Despite Mbappe’s brilliance, Real Madrid is heading towards a Trophyless season. Following their defeat to Arsenal in the UCL and Copa del Rey, the Los Blancos, after the El Clásico defeat, will have their La Liga hopes crushed as well. However, taking positives from their latest arrival, Real Madrid will look to come back stronger as the Club World Cup awaits.
