President Donald Trump announces Kobe Bryant’s statue in the National Garden of American Heroes

Lakers also built a statue for Kobe Bryant after his death in 2020.

U.S. President Donald Trump made a huge announcement on the NBA legend, Kobe Bryant. The late Los Angeles Lakers superstar will get a statue in the National Garden of American Heroes. He becomes the first basketball player to achieve this honor.

Donald Trump announced on Thursday the National Garden of American Heroes will include statues of African American icons. He mentioned the name of Kobe Bryant in the list and shared how everyone loves the Basketball legend.

“Martin Luther King Jr., Muhammad Ali. Not a bad athlete, what do you think, Muhammad, not too bad, and the late Kobe Bryant. People love Kobe Bryant. We’re going to save Tiger Woods for another time,” Trump said.

Apart from Kobe Bryant, Martin Luther King Jr.’s name was also included. He was one of the most prominent leaders in the civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968. Muhammad Ali, Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin, Coretta Scott King, Frederick Douglas, and Jackie Robinson are also on the list.

Kobe Bryant is a legendary figure in the NBA and the late Lakers superstar won five championships from 1996 to 2016. His name will always be regarded as one of the greatest players in the NBA. He was also known for his foundation which helped poor and needy people in the US.

The Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation (KVBFF) helps “young people in need, encourages the development of physical and social skills through sports and assists the homeless.”
