Mavericks managed to survive despite Thompson's struggle.
A Luka Doncic-less Dallas Mavericks managed to survive a late-game rally from the Denver Nuggets to secure a thrilling 123-120 victory in the NBA Cup on Friday.
Seven different Mavericks scored in double-figures, including Naji Marshall who finished with 26 points on 11/15 shooting off the bench. However, one name that was missing from the Mavericks’ scoring column was veteran guard Klay Thompson, who failed to score in his 19 minutes on the court, putting up a donut.
Thompson finished the game with 0 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. He struggled from the field, going a tough 0-for-8, and couldn’t find his rhythm from beyond the arc, missing all 4 of his three-point attempts.
Thompson’s stats this season have been far from his usual standards. Averaging 14.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game, he has struggled to find consistency since joining the Mavericks.

His shooting percentages have also been a concern, with a field goal percentage of 39.7% and a three-point percentage of 37.6%.
Despite Thompson’s quiet night, the Mavericks managed to pull off the win, improving their record to 9-7 after the victory against the Nuggets. The win would be extra morale-boosting for the Dallas as they weathered Nikola Jokic’s storm without their star, Luka Doncic, who was sidelined due to injury.
Mavericks will continue to hit the road with Doncic for their next two games. The Mavs will travel to Miami to set up an exciting clash against the Miami Heat on Sunday. Following that, they will play against the Atlanta Hawks the very next day at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
