Kevin Shattenkirk Announces Retirement After 14 NHL Seasons

Veteran Defenseman Reflects on a Career Spanning Nearly 1,000 Games and a Stanley Cup Victory

Kevin Shattenkirk has officially retired from the NHL after an impressive 14-season career. The 35-year-old defenseman last played for the Boston Bruins, contributing 24 points (six goals, 18 assists) in 61 regular-season games and adding one assist in six Stanley Cup Playoff appearances during the 2023-24 season.

“After 14 amazing years in the National Hockey League, I have decided to retire, I never knew hockey would take me this far. This game has had a dramatic impact in developing me into the man I am today.” : Shattenkirk said in a statement on social media.

Drafted by the Colorado Avalanche as the 14th overall pick in the 2007 NHL Draft, Shattenkirk built a legacy as a skilled and dependable defenseman. Over 952 regular-season games, he amassed 484 points (103 goals, 381 assists) while representing the Bruins, Anaheim Ducks, Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Rangers, Washington Capitals, St. Louis Blues, and the Avalanche.
