The Kevin Durant trade rumor mill is finally put to bed after his move has been confirmed. ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the details about the trade. Durant pushed for a fresh start outside Phoenix, while the Suns were equally motivated to pivot toward a long-term rebuild.

The 36-year-old forward has been traded to the Houston Rockets in one of the most shocking offseason moves in recent years. It is because the conversation around the Durant trade was that San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat were leading the race.

Phoenix reportedly explored trade options with the Minnesota Timberwolves as well. However, the Houston Rockets have won the Kevin Durant race. He is being traded in exchange of Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and the no. 10 2025 draft pick.

Moreover, the Phoenix Suns will also get five second round picks. This looks like a perfect package for the Suns who were desperate for draft capital after losing theirs in multiple previous trades. They are also getting offensive help in Dillon Brooks and Jalen Green.

Durant’s Exit Leaves Phoenix with Possibilities

Kevin Durant is a fine fit for a Houston Rockets team that struggled offensively. Their backcourt issues were more glaring in the first round playoffs series against the Golden State Warriors. The former Suns’ forward instantly alleviates that attack.

The Rockets are almost a complete team now with a reliable scoring option in the Rockets. Durant’s elite shooting will instantly lift Houston’s perimeter offense, a key area where they fell short last season. He shot 43 percent from beyond the arc while he scored an impressive 52.7% from the field last season.

Bringing in Brooks and Green signals a reset for the Suns as they aim to rebuild around younger, high-energy talent. Both Brooks and Jalen Green had their contribution to the rise of the Houston Rockets last season.
