Kevin Durant’s trade situation continues to complicate the Suns’ offseason, with the Timberwolves now out of the race.
The Phoenix Suns are actively working behind the scenes to find a trade solution involving Kevin Durant as offseason priorities stall. Trade uncertainty around Durant has disrupted the Suns’ offseason plans, even with a new head coach now leading the franchise. NBA Insider Shams Charania has brought a crucial update in regard to the trade.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, three franchises are showing serious interest in acquiring Kevin Durant this summer. The Minnesota Timberwolves, Houston Rockets, and San Antonio Spurs are the teams that are currently circling around the 36-year-old forward.
However, Durant has reportedly declined Minnesota’s interest, expressing no desire to relocate to the Timberwolves organization. This leaves two other teams – San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets in prime contention to seal the deal. Durant also prefers the Miami Heat as well.

But Durant’s $54 million remaining contract has made teams hesitant to take the financial risk involved in acquiring him. At 36, Durant’s recent injury history has raised concerns about his long-term value despite his star status. The Suns front office is working with his business partner, Rich Kleiman to find a solution soon.
Despite Durant’s reluctance, the Suns are still hopeful of negotiating a trade with Minnesota if circumstances shift. So far, the Twolves have shown the strongest of the interest among other franchises in the NBA veteran. The Athletic’s Sam Amick and Jon Krawczynski on Monday suggested that the Suns front office hasn’t given up hope of Durant to the Timberwolves.
The Phoenix Suns are also prioritizing a deal that maximizes value, keeping long-term roster balance in mind. Despite his age, Durant remains a marquee name, with several franchises still eager to add him to their rosters. The front office is hoping to keep the team competitive through the Kevin Durant trade.
The Suns are eyeing young assets to maintain short-term competitiveness while gradually initiating a long-term rebuild. According to Jake Fischer, the Suns are targeting a Kristaps Porzingis and Myles Turner trade. However, Turner is inching closer towards extending his stay with the Pacers.
