Jalen Williams had a career playoff-high 40 points in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
Jaylen Williams has been one of Oklahoma City’s key players and has clearly emerged as the second go-to option for the team, behind their MVP Shai Gilgeous Alexander. Williams has struggled with consistency in the postseason this year but is still averaging 20.4 points, 1.6 steals, 5.8 rebounds, and 5.3 assists, on 31.8 % shooting from beyond the arc and 45.7 percent from the field.
However, even though Williams can struggle at times, he makes up for it on the defensive end with tenacious perimeter and post defense, despite being under sized for a power forward. His standout performance in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals against the Minnesota Timberwolves saw him drop a playoff-career-high 34 points, with 14 points in the fourth quarter, helping the Thunder secure a crucial win, and take a 3-1 series lead, after which the Thunder went on to win the series. Later, he updated his playoff career-high with 40 points in Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Pacers and guided them to a commanding 3-2 in the series.
Williams’ versatility, evidenced by his ability to start as a guard or as a power forward, going along with his elite defense, earning second-team All-Defensive honors, was vital to OKC’s 68-14 record and their playoff success so far in the 2025 NBA playoffs. The Thunder now face the Indiana Pacers in the NBA Finals. Both the teams are extremely deep, have talented stars, and are well coached. Williams will need to play the best brand of basketball he’s ever played in his basketball career, to help OKC win their first ever championship after relocating from Seattle.
