Kendrick Perkins Reveals How Stephen Curry is One Step Away to Enter GOAT Conversation

Stephen Curry produced another excellent show in the NBA playoffs to guide the Golden State Warriors to western conference semifinals. The four-time NBA Champion led his team in total points, rebounds, and assists in the playoff series against the Rockets. Ahead of the Warriors’ crucial Game 1 clash against the Timberwolves, Curry has been given a task from Kendrick Perkins to enter into GOAT conversation.

Stephen Curry will be in action for the conference semifinals on Tuesday and ESPN “Get Up” panelist Kendrick Perkins dropped a major statement for the Warriors superstar. The retired NBA veteran believes Curry is on the cusp of being in the GOAT conversation and he just need to complete two more goals before the retirement.

Kendrick Perkins Reveals Two Specific Goals for Stephen Curry to Get into GOAT Debate

Kendrick Perkins feels Stephen Curry has changed the game forever. The NBA veteran feels if Curry wins one more championship and a Finals MVP honor, he will enter into the GOAT conversation.

“Here’s the thing: Steph Curry is one championship away and one Finals MVP away from entering the GOAT conversation,” Perkins said Monday. “Real talk. And I would dare somebody to try and argue or make me seem like I’m saying something ridiculous. What he has done for the game … he has changed the game forever. Forever.“

“He’s given life to all the guys who are under [6-foot-3]. Not just because of his shooting ability, but because what he brings to the table night in and night out on a day-to-day basis as a true professional, and now he’s getting it done on both ends of the floor.”

Stephen Curry is chasing his fifth NBA championship glory but the task won’t be easy. The Warriors superstar has to deal with the Timberowolves in the conference semifinals. If Warriors cross the line, they might face top-seed Thunder in the next round. Curry, NBA’s all-time greatest shooter last won the championship in 2022 and he was also the Finals MVP in the triumph.

“We have to give him credit about his conditioning and how much he puts into his body,” Perkins said. “That was a tough-ass series he just went through. You’re talking about Amen Thompson, who was physical with him. We’re talking about a [6-foot-7], bigger guy who was face-guarding [Curry] at times, trapping him.

“He damn near ran two miles – but it was two miles of physicality. It was like running two miles with a 15-pound weight vest.”

Stephen Curry was instrumental in the Warriors’ victory over the second-seeded Rockets. The 2025 All-Star MVP averaged 24.0 points, 5.9 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.9 blocks over seven games. At 37 years old, he became the first player in Warriors history, and the oldest in NBA history to lead his team in total points, rebounds, and assists in a single playoff series with his team’s win over the Rockets.

“He’s been getting it done on both ends of the floor,” Perkins said. “In his fourth championship, against the Boston Celtics, they were trying to pick on him, and I thought that’s when he leveled up and took it to the next level defensively.”
