The Los Angeles Sparks’ star Kelsey Plum is under intense scrutiny after her on-court foul escalated during a recent WNBA matchup. LA Sparks suffered a decisive 72-59 loss at the hands of the Golden State Valkyries, who are their direct rivals for a playoff position.

Kelsey Plum, who endured a dismal night scoring just four points on 1-of-9 shooting in 34 minutes of play reacted with frustration violently. During the fourth quarter, she executed a dangerous trip foul on Veronica Burton.

Plum kicked toward the kneecap of Veronica Burton before causing a trip that sent herself tumbling in the action. The Golden State Valkyries player was visibly upset with such a reckless play, as she could have sustained a serious injury.

She got up and quickly confronted the Spark’s star. Players and officials had to get in the way to separate the two. The referees, after reviewing the sequence of the play, ultimately awarded a flagrant 1 foul on Plum.

Social Media Erupts Over Plum Foul

Fans on social media believed otherwise, as many demanded that Kelsey Plum should have been ejected. They believe that this is not the first where the Sparks attacker has gone rogue on the court.

On social media, a fan wrote: “Stuff like this is why it’s hard for me to defend Kelsey Plum sometimes. She has these random moments where you’re just like—what was she thinking? She was playing terribly, and honestly, it felt like she was trying to get herself ejected.”

Other fans believed that the Sparks star’s actions warranted a suspension. “Kelsey Plum should have been ejected from tonights and face suspension. BUT, she won’t. The league is trash,” an irate fan posted.

“Plays like that are just unacceptable, and she needs to be suspended like 3 games minimum,” said another.

LA Sparks coach Lynne Roberts while defending her player said, “She was trying to kick the ball — I didn’t see the replay, but I saw it live, and I know she didn’t mean anything by it. She’s not a dirty player.”
