Karl-Anthony Towns Injury Update: Knicks star likely to miss out couple of games with knee sprain

Thibodeau faced criticism for calling Towns back into the game even after an injury.

New York Knicks faced a major injury setback as their star player, Karl-Anthony Towns sustained a serious knee injury against the Boston Celtics on Saturday. The 29-year-old limped to the locker room in the fourth quarter due to a suspected lower-body injury. His absence hurt New York as they suffered a 118-105 loss to the Celtics.

The Knicks dropped their second straight game on Saturday after a routing loss to the Cavs in a battle of NBA East elite. KAT’s injury leaves their fate hanging as they are a potential contender to reach playoffs. Before the injury, the All-Star center tallied 24 points and 18 rebounds over a 41-minute stay.

The former Kentucky Wildcats student was injured after a blocked shot from Kristaps Porzingis. Towns was in serious pain and forced to leave the game. The Knicks star was given medical treatment and was escorted to the visitors’ locker room for further evaluation.

Towns even returned to the bench and met his teammates during a timeout. Surprisingly, he returned to the court with 4:21 left in the game. The Knicks were down by 18 points and Thibodeau wanted to make a comeback through the All-Star player.

However, Thibodeau faced criticism for calling Towns back into the game. The 29-year-old looked uncomfortable and appeared to grab at his knee during the last stretch. He contributed one rebound and picked up a pair of fouls after returning from the injury.

Karl-Anthony Towns will remain questionable for the Knicks’ next matchup against the 76ers on Wednesday, Feb. 26. He has put on a day-to-day basis and his fitness will be monitored. Meanwhile, he will not go out for longer period but can miss couple of games.
