Kansas City Chiefs Preseason Schedule 2025 – What To Expect From Andy Reid and Co. Ahead of NFL 2025–26 Season?

Devavrat Kulkarni

The heartbreak of Super Bowl LIX is now well and truly behind Chiefs Kingdom, with the focus on the upcoming season. Kansas City has truly dominated the past few seasons, with back-to-back Lombardi Trophies in 2022 and 2023, and last year’s finish that nearly saw the league’s first-ever three-peat in the Super Bowl era.

Anyway, the past is the past, and the Chiefs know very well that each season brings about its own set of challenges. The AFC West is also getting tougher with the Chargers and Broncos looking like much more strengthened units.

Where does Kansas City stand now, and more importantly, is there any postseason fatigue in the locker room? These are some of the questions that may get answered during the preseason, which is just a few weeks away.

Kansas City Chiefs 2025 Preseason Schedule

The Kansas City Chiefs begin their first of three preseason games with a trip to Arizona to take on the Cardinals on August 09, 2025. That will be followed by games against the Seattle Seahawks and the Chicago Bears on August 15 and 22, respectively.

Chiefs Rookies To Watch in 2025 NFL Preseason

Kansas City had seven draft picks in this year’s NFL draft. They used their first-round pick on offensive tackle Josh Simmons in a bid to strengthen the left tackle position. Overall, the Chiefs selected 4 defensive players and 3 offensive players. Here are some players to watch out for during the preseason.

Josh Simmons – Offensive Tackle

Simmons will definitely be a key player to watch during the preseason. He is coming off a severe injury last year, but has shown excellent progress during minicamp. Mahomes’ blindside protection needs to improve vastly if Kansas City is to have any chance at making another Super Bowl.

Nohl Williams – Cornerback

While the defense did a nice job overall last season, the Chiefs’ secondary could do with depth talent. Cornerback Nohl Williams could even make a case for himself as the number 3 or 4 option behind Trent McDuffie and Kristian Fulton if he can beat out Jaylen Watson for the position.

Ashton Gillotte – Defensive End

Defensive end Ashton Gillotte could slot into the Chiefs’ pass-rushing unit with quality performances up front. While George Karlaftis remains the main threat from the edge, Gillotte could earn plenty of snaps as Mike Danna and Felix Anudike-Uzomah have not impressed.

What Aspects Do the Kansas City Chiefs Need To Work on This Season?

Looking back at the Chiefs’ 2024 season, the biggest problems the team faced all came on the offensive side of the ball. The defense did a commendable job throughout the season, while the offense stumbled.

There were two severe problems that pegged the Chiefs back in 2024. The first was the injuries to their starting wide receivers Rashee Rice and Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown. The former played in only 4 games before suffering a knee injury, while the latter only made a comeback toward the end of the season after suffering a sternoclavicular injury in preseason.

Moreover, Xavier Worthy, being a rookie last season, took some time to get going, and that too was a struggle as he had to play a different role following the injuries. In addition, star tight end Travis Kelce also lost a step, leading to a drop in production.

The other struggle for the Chiefs came on the offensive line, especially the left tackle position, which was just abysmal. Kansas City has already lost All-Pro guard Joe Thuney, who was traded to the Bears, so the O-line remains with plenty of question marks.

Will the Chiefs Starters Play in the Preseason Games?

It is more than unlikely that the Chiefs’ starters will play a major role during the preseason games. Kansas City will mostly use this opportunity to check where they are scheme-wise, as well as hand backup roster players and rookies more time on the field. Starters could get some amount of game time, but that is expected to be very limited.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
