Juventus Sign Canada Forward Jonathan David on Free Transfer

Juventus have acted decisively in the transfer market by securing Jonathan David as they prepare for Dusan Vlahovic’s potential departure.

Juventus have secured the signing of Canadian striker Jonathan David on a free transfer with the forward set to undergo his medical in Turin on Friday. David became a free agent following the expiry of his contract with French side Lille at the end of June.

During his five-year spell in France, David scored an impressive 109 goals and 30 assists in 231 appearances for Lille. He attracted interest from several clubs across Europe, including Arsenal, Manchester United, Newcastle United, and West Ham. However, Juventus’ offer of €6 million (£5m/$7m) annually, combined with the promise of Champions League football, convinced David to choose Turin over other clubs.

Napoli had also pushed to sign the Canada international, while Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah FC made a late attempt to double David’s salary offer. However, David prioritised Champions League football and views Juventus as serious contenders for the Serie A title under new head coach Igor Tudor.

Most recently, David was on international duty with Canada at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States. As a result, the striker delayed his final decision until after his national team’s exit. Once Canada were knocked out, David accelerated talks with Juventus, making it clear that the Italian giants were his preferred destination.

Jonathan David To Replace Dusan Vlahovic

Juventus have acted decisively in the transfer market by securing Jonathan David as they prepare for Dusan Vlahovic’s potential departure this summer. Juventus are determined to assemble a side capable of competing on all fronts and landing a forward of David’s calibre on a free transfer signals their ambition to return to the summit of Italian football.

David’s arrival will creates direct competition for the central striker role. As a result, Serbian striker Vlahovic’s place is no longer guaranteed in the team. Unless Vlahovic secures a move away from Turin this summer, he may face increased time on the bench as David steps in to lead the line under Igor Tudor.

Juventus exited the FIFA Club World Cup following a defeat to Real Madrid in the Round of 16. They will now begin their pre-season preparations ahead of the new Serie A campaign. A formal announcement from Juventus is expected shortly after David completes his medical on Friday.
