Jonathan Kuminga Trade Rumors: Warriors Planning to Send the Forward to Brooklyn Nets

As the off-season is nearing, the trade rumors have already begun, with various players being linked to all kinds of teams in the market. Jonathan Kuminga is the latest name in the trade market who is being linked with a move away from the Bay Area. The uber athletic forward could be looking for a change.

The 22-year-old hasn’t featured for the Golden State Warriors in the last three games despite being healthy and available. Jimmy Butler and Gui Santos have absorbed his minutes on the court. Head coach Steve Kerr didn’t feature Kuminga for the LA Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, and now the Houston Rockets game. Kuminga’s athleticism-driven play would have matched well against the Rockets, who have a considerably young roster.

But Steve Kerr has visibly turned away from his young gun. Jonathan Kuminga was drafted by GSW in the 2021 draft, but in four years hasn’t shown large-scale improvements. Moreover, his solo play doesn’t complement the Kerr system well. Kerr has emphasized time and again for Kuminga to play defense as well, but even that hasn’t worked out.

As a result of that, Golden State Warriors and Kuminga might be on the verge of parting ways. And according to media reports, Brooklyn Nets have emerged as the top spot for the forward. Kuminga, who demanded $35 million from GSW, is still looking for a grand contract. Only a few teams have salary cap space to accommodate that kind of salary demands.

Brooklyn Nets Have the Money

The Brooklyn Nets, come off season will have the highest salary cap in the league at close to $40 million. Nets can match Kuminga’s demands. Moreover, the timeline of both the parties also match as Kuminga is only 22-years-old and Brooklyn Nets are focusing more on building a young core with a long term strategy.

They need young legs, but having experience will serve as an added bonus. Kuminga joined the league in 2021 and has played 258 games so far. He has a career average of 12.5 points, 4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists with an FG percent of 50.7. Perhaps, a change in team can unlock a better version of Jonathan Kuminga.

The Brooklyn Nets finished in the 12th position in the Eastern Conference this season with a poor record of .317. The Nets are second from the last in the league when it comes to FG percent. The team has averaged 43.7 FG percent and just 105.1 points this season. It is clear as day that their offense lacks any edge leave alone cutting edge.

The output isn’t just there, and if the Nets move for Kuminga, the offense has a real chance to click. However, will the Nets pay the exhoborant contract demands of Kuminga is to be seen. For a player who has averaged 15.3 points, 2.2 assists and 4.6 rebounds this season, Brooklyn Nets could have a high gamble decision on their hands if trade rumors are to be believed.
