Joan Beringer, born November 11, 2006, in France, has rapidly emerged as an intriguing prospect coming into the 2025 NBA Draft and particularly because of his size, catching the eye of NBA scouts. He grew up in Selestat, France, and stayed there till age 10, until he moved to Strasbourg, where he initially pursued football. Remarkably, he never played basketball until the summer of 2021, only trying the sport at 14 after struggling to find football cleats to fit his oversized feet. Encouraged by friends, he took basketball seriously, joining Strasbourg Saint-Joseph Basket’s U17 team.

As his raw potential shone through, leading him to SIG Strasbourg in 2022, where he played for their U-18 squad in LNB Espoirs league, taking his scoring from 4.1 points per game in 2022-23 to an impressive 17.4 in 2023-24. In 2024, Beringer moved to Slovenia, joining Cedevita Olimpija’s senior team after an impressive stint with their reserves. His impact was immediate earning a four-year contract in November 2024 and helping the team secure the 2024-25 Slovenian Basketball Cup.

Now Joan Beringer has been considered a potential selection in the 2025 NBA Draft.

While Joan Beringer is a tantalizing prospect, there are some weaknesses that he needs to work on coming into the NBA

Strengths

Has great physical tools to be a successful NBA player. He is 6-feet-11-inches tall and possesses a 7’5″ wingspan, which alone can let him thrive on both ends of the court.
Plays with a lot of energy and is a energizer bunny who excels on loose balls, fastbreaks, and grabbing boards.
Has the ability to rebound the basketball at a very high level, who has a knack for positioning himself well to grab rebounds.
Given the fact that he only recently started playing basketball, Beringer’s growth in these short years have been extremely impressive, and he may have a high ceiling.
Given his size, he is extremely agile and loose, who excels at fast break situations.

If the Spurs hold onto the No. 14 pick, a French player, Joan Beringer, could be their target. The 6’11” center from Slovenia’s Cedevita Olimpija is gaining traction as a late-lottery to mid-first round prospect.

Weaknesses

So far he does not have a consistent three-point shot or a mid-range game, which he needs to add coming into the NBA.
Can get caught up in foul trouble due, or the opposition can blow-by due to over aggressiveness on the defensive end.
While he is relentless, it could sometimes lead to him playing out of control which could limit his effectiveness.

Joan Beringer’s Stats and Accomplishments

Playing with the Cedevita Olimpija in the 2024-25 season for the EuroCup, Joan Beringer averaged 4.5 points, 1.2 blocks, 5.5 rebounds, and 60.4 percent shooting from the field. And In ABA, Beringer averaged 4.9 points, 1.5 blocks, 4.1 rebounds, on 59.4 percent from the field.

Joan Beringer’s Draft Projection

According to the latest mock drafts, Joan Beringer could be drafted as the 19th overall pick to the Brooklyn Nets in the 2025 NBA Draft. Joining the Nets would be an ideal situation for Beringer, playing alongside Cam Thomas, Cam Johnson, and Nic Claxton, and not to forget their head coach Jordi Fernandez who has done an excellent job developing some of the young players, including Cam Johnson.
