All-American Round of 32 tussle at the WTA-1000.
Days after reaching the semifinals in Beijing, World No. 6 Jessica Pegula faces fellow American Hailey Baptiste in the 2025 WTA Wuhan Open Round of 32. This marquee clash on Tuesday will determine who enters the pre-quarterfinal stage to face either Raducanu/Li or Alexandrova/Mboko. Can Pegula continue her consistent showing on the hard courts? The one and only BetMGM will deliver the most accurate betting odds for this clash at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center.
With a career-high of No. 3 in singles and No. 1 in doubles, Jessica Pegula is among the most high profile women’s superstars. The 31-year-old American has three titles to her name this year – the ATX Open Austin, the Charleston Open and the Bad Homburg Open. She also reached finals at Adelaide and Miami, and came close to beating Aryna Sabalenka in the 2025 US Open semifinal. The former Grand Slam runner-up has won 76% service games this year, and has a record of 46-18 to show for it.

At the age of 23, Hailey Baptiste was recently among the Top-10 American players on the women’s circuit. The 2025 season has proven to be very enriching for the World No. 55 – she achieved her career-best finish at three out of four majors. She began her campaign with a quarterfinal showing in Singapore, after which Baptiste suffered a minor drop-off. Yet, she has made three Round of 16 appearances so far, including Roland Garros. With a success rate of 56% so far, her service game win percentage of 72% and break point conversion rate of 39% seem accurate.

Baptiste has a certain nonchalance associated with her game. While this plays into her hands more often than not, the American will need to be 100% focused against Pegula. Seeded sixth in Wuhan, the former US Open runner-up has a solid technique on hard courts. Her ability to hit a cross-court and down the line shot with the same stance and back lift make her an extremely tricky competitor. Moreover, Pegula’s average success rate on first serve was around 70% in Beijing – this will come to her aid under pressure.
Prediction: Jessica Pegula in straight sets.
Pegula (1/8) is a firm favorite against Baptiste (24/5) in the 2025 Wuhan Open Round of 32. According to the implied probability on the money line, the 31-year-old has a 91% chance of advancing to the pre-quarterfinal stage. Take a look at the full list of odds (as per BetMGM):
