The former Oklahoma Sooners’ freshman guard began his basketball journey at Joliet West High School in Joliet as a sophomore. However, he moved to AZ Compass Prep for his junior year, where he led his team charts with an average of 14.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.3 steals, and 2.5 steals. While playing at the Nike Peach Jam Tournament, Fears averaged 21.2 points while shooting 38% from the three-point range in five games.

A consensus four-star prospect, Fears was tabbed as a top-25 guard in the 2025 ESPN 100. He got offers from Illinois, Providence, Kansas, Michigan, and Ole Miss, and while he committed to play for Illinois, Fears later joined Oklahoma. In his collegiate career, Fears emerged as an effective ball handler and a stand-out scorer. He finished the season with an average of 17.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game.
