What’s the Latest Update on Jayson Tatum’s Recovery ahead of Upcoming NBA Season?

There is no information on Tatum’s potential return in next season but fans got a crucial update on Celtics star’s recovery from injury. As per NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg, the franchise has put everything in place to allow Jayson Tatum to make speedy recovery. The 2024 NBA champion is putting relentless energy to get fit as early as possible.

“We think there is a 100 percent chance that Tatum is going to attack his rehab with a relentless energy and a desire to beat whatever the generally accepted timeline is for an Achilles rehab. The team 100 percent put Tatum in the best possible position to do such by getting him into surgery just hours after the tear, and with a surgeon known for his expertise and advancements in Achilles repair,” wrote Forsberg in his report.

Tatum is showing great intent in his rehab process and he also met a couple of players who gone through the same injury. Kevin Durant also had an Achilles injury which kept him out for the season. The recovery process takes time and Celtics star is following an optimistic approach. Forsberg mentioned that it was echoed by Boston Celtics president Rich Gotham.

“It feels like the team’s reluctance to 1. Set a firm timeline and 2. Formally rule Tatum out for the 2025-26 season, even after a team like the Pacers did just that with Tyrese Haliburton, seems to suggest a desire to avoid putting any limitation on the rehab process. I thought team president Rich Gotham summed it up best when he recently noted, ‘What I know about JT is he’s going to do everything he can to put us in a position to make a decision,’” said Forsberg.

What’s in store for Tatum for 2025-26?

Jayson Tatum recently shared a video and said that “better days are ahead.” The Celtics star sustained the the Achilles injury in their first-round series against the New York Knicks in the 2025 NBA playoffs. Last season, Tatum averaged 26.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, and a career-high 6.0 assists.

At present, Tatum is out of the Celtics’ roster for the 2025-26 season. The franchise is pushing hard to get him fit but they are not making a risky approach. They might shut him down for the entire season so the player can play with full potential in 2026-27. Boston will now rely majorly Jaylen Brown, Derrick White and Payton Pritchard.
