Jayden Reed Injury Update – Packers Wide Receiver Undergoes Surgery for Double Injury, to be Out Indefinitely!

Eric Divakaran

The Green Bay Packers’ explosive wide receiver group, one of the NFL‘s most dynamic units, has been a perfect match for quarterback Jordan Love’s precise arm. Yet, as the 2025 season is starting to unfold, injuries have already begun to test their depth early on. In Week 2’s hard-fought 27-18 victory over the Washington Commanders on Thursday Night Football, Packers wideout Jayden Reed, a key spark in the passing attack, suffered a significant upper-body injury just minutes into the game. The third-year pro, who had already been managing a nagging lower-body issue from training camp, was forced from Lambeau Field after a deep catch on the opening drive, leaving fans and coaches holding their breath.

Reed’s absence adds to the Packers’ early hurdles, but the silver lining emerges in how the team and players are approaching his rehab. With an expected timeline of 6-8 weeks sidelined, Reed is now positioned to address multiple ailments simultaneously, potential returning stronger for the stretch run. As Green Bay prepares for its first road test against the Cleveland Browns in Week 3, the focus shifts to depth pieces stepping up while Reed prioritizes full healing. This resilience could prove pivotal for a Packers squad eyeing a deep playoff push.

Addressing Both Injuries at Once: Good News for the Packers Fans

What started as a nightmare for Reed has now evolved into an unexpected opportunity. The collarbone fracture, sustained after stretching for a 39-yard touchdown grab, wiped out by a holding penalty, forced him onto injured reserve with an indefinite timeline. However, this downtime aligned perfectly with his pre-existing Jones fracture in his left foot, a camp holdover that had limited his snaps and promoted a decision to play through without immediate surgery. On Tuesday, September 16, Reed underwent successful procedures for both, as he shared on social media.

Insiders like Ian Rapoport noted the collarbone’s 6-8 week prognosis could see Reed back in November, post-Packers’ early bye, while Adam Schefter highlighted the dual fix as a strategic win.

What is a Jones Fracture?

A Jones fracture is a specific break in the fifth metetarsal bone of the foot, located near the base where it connects to the midfoot. Named after 19th century surgeon Robert Jones, this injury often occurs from stress or sudden twists, which is very common in high-impact sports like football.

Unlike standard fractures, it happens in an area with poor blood supply, raising risks of delayed healing or non-union with intervention. Typically requiring 6-12 weeks of recovery, it demands immobilization, rest, or surgery with screws and plates for stability.

For Reed, playing through it risks worsening, but surgical repair accelerates return to play timelines.

I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
