Sinner aims to extend dominance as Cerundolo seeks an upset in Paris
Second seed Jannik Sinner is set to clash with the 17th seed, Francisco Cerundolo, in the third round of the Paris Masters 2025. The Italian received a first-round bye before easing past Zizou Bergs in straight sets. Meanwhile, Cerundolo opened his campaign with a straight-set win over qualifier Damir Dzumhur, followed by a gritty three-set battle against Miomir Kecmanovic. Sinner has enjoyed yet another outstanding year. The Italian held the world No. 1 ranking for most of the season before Carlos Alcaraz overtook him after the US Open.
With four titles to his name in Melbourne, Wimbledon, Beijing, and most recently Vienna, Sinner has remained remarkably consistent with finals runs in the US Open, Cincinnati, Rome, and Roland Garros. He also faced a few hurdles, including a second-round exit in Halle and retirements in Cincinnati and Shanghai, not to mention a three-month suspension earlier this year due to a doping violation. Statistically, Sinner has been among the most efficient performers on tour, winning 79% of first-serve points, 34% of return points, and converting 45% of his 479 break points while firing 342 aces.

Cerundolo, on the other hand, has put together a solid yet uneven season. The Argentine reached a career-high ranking of world No. 18 in May and currently sits at No. 21. Although he hasn’t captured a title this year, he made a runner-up finish at the Argentina Open, falling to Joao Fonseca in straight sets. He also reached semifinals in Chile, Munich, Madrid, and Nordea, along with quarterfinals in Rio, Indian Wells, and Miami. However, he struggled for consistency elsewhere. Statistically, he has produced 210 aces, winning 69% of first-serve points, 33% of return points, and converting 43% of 449 break points.

Jannik Sinner holds a 3-2 lead in his head-to-head against Francisco Cerundolo. Their first meeting came at the 2022 Miami Open, where Sinner was forced to retire due to foot blisters, allowing the Argentine to advance. The Italian bounced back later that year, winning their Davis Cup clash in three sets before backing it up with another victory in Vienna. In 2023 in Rome, Cerundolo staged a comeback win to even the score, but Sinner reclaimed the edge in their 2025 Rome encounter.

Cerundolo’s fighting spirit and varied topspin could trouble Sinner. However, Sinner’s precision, dominance, indoor court confidence, and overall season performance clearly indicate the Italian’s win.

Prediction: Jannik Sinner in straight sets
Jannik Sinner (-4000) enters as the overwhelming favorite, and rightly so given his form and surface advantage. Francisco Cerundolo (+1400) will look to counter with his heavy forehand, but the gap in consistency and serve quality makes Sinner the clear pick in straight sets.
