Jannik Sinner became the first player in 34 years, essentially since ATP statistical records began in 1991, to lead the Tour in both percentage of service games won (92%) and percentage of return games won (32.63%) in a single season. The Italian did not finish as the year-end World No. 1, yet he still capped 2025 by successfully defending his ATP Finals title against Carlos Alcaraz.

The 24-year-old achieved the historic statistical double through efficiency and a season-long ability to dictate patterns of play. His numbers translated directly into results, producing six titles across Melbourne, Wimbledon, Beijing, Vienna, Paris, and Turin, along with runner-up finishes in Rome, Roland Garros, Cincinnati, and the US Open.

Sinner’s Statistical First That Reframes Modern Dominance

Sinner’s serve, long considered a work in progress earlier in his career, became the backbone of his rise in 2025. Across 64 matches, he won 713 of 775 service games for a 92% hold rate, according to ATP Stats. That figure placed him nearly 3% ahead of Taylor Fritz, the closest challenger, and comfortably above heavy servers such as Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Reilly Opelka, and Novak Djokovic. Their rivalry defined the year, with four majors split between them and a tense title match at the ATP Finals. The improvement also represented dramatic year-over-year growth, rising from 28.30% in 2024, the season he finished as ATP Year-End No. 1.
