‘Entertaining and Great To Watch’ – Jannik Sinner Hails Carlos Alcaraz’s All-Court Brilliance at the US Open 2025

Jannik Sinner spoke about Carlos Alcaraz’s versatility and impact on the sport during his US Open 2025 press conference.

With the 2025 US Open just around the corner, defending champion Jannik Sinner has praised Carlos Alcaraz as the man to beat in New York. The two have dominated men’s tennis for more than two years, splitting the four Grand Slam titles in 2024 and continuing their rivalry into 2025. Sinner enters as the top seed and Alcaraz as No. 2, meaning fans can only see the blockbuster clash if both make it to the final. This is a possibility and they might meet again this season for the fifth time.

Sinner Breaks Down Why Alcaraz Is So Tough to Beat

In his pre-tournament press conference, Sinner was quick to highlight Alcaraz’s all-around brilliance. “I feel like he is an all-round player. I think we have seen that on many, many occasions, and winning Roland Garros and winning Wimbledon and winning here. You know, it shows that he knows how to play on every surface,” Sinner said. “I’ve seen the match here, and he’s playing very, very good and not missing barely any shots at the moment. So he’s confident.”

Sinner added that facing Alcaraz requires tactical adjustments no matter the setting. “It makes it very difficult to play against him, because tactically you prepare matches in different ways depending on where you play. He is a big favourite in every tournament where he plays because he has so many solutions and game styles he can provide and he can solve problems with. There are many, many things which make him so difficult to play against, but it’s great for the sport. It’s good to have someone like Carlos, entertaining and great to watch, and that’s what people love.”

Both stars have enjoyed mixed results outside the majors this year. Sinner captured his second straight Australian Open and his first Wimbledon title, while Alcaraz defended his Roland Garros crown and reached finals in Beijing, Rome, Paris, and most recently Cincinnati. The Italian, however, has been dealing with fatigue and the effects of a three-month doping ban earlier this season.

Sinner currently trails 9-5 in their head-to-head, but both players remain frontrunners to lift the trophy at Flushing Meadows. The Italian is defending 2,000 ranking points after last year’s title run, leaving him behind Alcaraz in the live standings. For now, though, their rivalry continues to fuel men’s tennis, with New York as the latest stage.
