Jameis Winston Landing Spots – Where Could the QB Potentially Land if the Giants Decide To Trade Him?

Devavrat Kulkarni

Giants could move on from Jameis Winston for the right offer

The New York Giants are looking for an improved level of quarterback play after Daniel Jones went 2-8 in his 10 starts in 2024 and requested a release once he was benched. In five and a half seasons in New York, Jones led the team to a 24−44−1 record.

In any case, the Giants acquired Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston during the offseason, after which they also drafted Jaxon Dart in an attempt to secure the future franchise quarterback. Wilson has been the overwhelming favorite to start this season, and Winston was seen as the bridge between the former and the rookie Dart.

Jameis Winston’s Potential Landing Spots

Dart has shown a great deal of progress and seems to be ahead of schedule in terms of being ready for the backup role. That leaves Winston as the team’s third-string quarterback, and the Giants can afford to trade him in exchange for favorable terms.

As it stands, the Big Blue are receiving enquiries for the former Browns’ quarterback. So with that, here are the best landing spots for the veteran signal caller according to BetMGM

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints’ quarterback situation is currently in a state of concern. The sudden announcement of Derek Carr’s retirement has left the franchise with a huge void under center. As per the depth chart, second-year signal caller Spencer Rattler will be the starter, followed by rookie Tyler Shough.

Rattler started 6 games for the Saints last season, in which he went 0-6 with a 57% completion rate that included 4 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. Shough, on the other hand, is still developing. The Saints can easily plug and play Winston, which would provide them with a much-needed solution.

Dallas Cowboys

America’s team, the Dallas Cowboys, has its fair share of problems at quarterback. While Dak Prescott will still lead the Cowboys this season, it is important to look at the depth behind him. Joe Milton III is the designated backup, and the Cowboys were hoping to see much better development from the former sixth-round pick from the 2024 draft class.

Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case, and in two preseason games this year, Milton has thrown for just 143 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions while going 17 of 29. Although landing Winston from their NFC East rivals would be difficult, Dallas could still try and sweeten the deal if they wish to do so.

Indianapolis Colts

As per BetMGM, the next team that should go after Winston is the Colts. Indianapolis is still trying to sort out who its starter will be between Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson. If a dilemma on whom to start arises due to exceptional talents at the same spot, that can be a sign of good things.

But that is not the true case in Indy, where neither of the two has been able to pull away from the other in terms of standout performances. Perhaps bringing in Winston may be the answer the Colts are looking for.

Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams are set under center with veteran Matthew Stafford leading the team once again. However, injury concerns for the 37-year-old mean that the Rams may need viable options should Stafford end up missing some games this season.

Jimmy Garoppolo and Stetson Bennett are the next in line as the backup and third-string signal callers. But, adding a depth piece such as Winston may not be a bad way to go for the Rams.

Miami Dolphins

The last team with the best landing spot for Winston, as per BetMGM, is the Miami Dolphins. Behind starter Tua Tagovailoa, the Dolphins have Zach Wilson and rookie Quinn Ewers.

Wilson has still not proved himself in this league despite being the second overall pick from the 2021 draft. Ewers is still a work in progress, which means Miami could use a veteran presence in the quarterback room, especially with Tagovailoa’s injury history.

The Giants currently hold all the cards in their favor. With the new season just about a fortnight away, they can still decide to see how things go in the initial few weeks before taking a call on Winston. But whenever they decide to trade him, if they do decide that, the G-Men will surely command top value in return.

The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
