Jalen Milroe Hand Size: Should It Be a Concern for NFL Teams Eyeing To Draft Him?

In the NFL Combine, every player’s speed, vertical jumps, height, weight, and even hand sizes are measured and teams pick according to the what they require. This means that if there are any glaring weaknesses in a player, the Combine will expose them.

Typically an NFL scout looks for a player’s height, his strength, and his on field performance to determine if there are any weaknesses. However, nowadays, there’s been a lot of talk and hype surrounding a quarterback’s hand size. We know for a fact that Joe Burrow, of the Cincinnati Bengals, has small hands but that has not bothered his play on the field at all. In fact, Burrow is a top-5 quarterback currently in many people’s eyes. Whereas Kenny Pickett, QB for the Philadelphia Eagles, struggles with the football due to his small hands.

Jalen Milroe’s (who played his college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide), hand size was measured at the NFL Combine and it is not exactly favorable for him. Let us look at what his exact measurements are.

Milroe’s hands were measured 8.8 inches at the 2025 Senior Bowl and according to various sources, having small hands affects a player’s draft stock. Quarterbacks who have hand sizes below 9 inches are not preferred by most NFL teams and here’s why;

Why does a NFL Quarterback’s hand size matter?

Since the Quarterback handles almost every possession at the offensive side of the field, having a bigger hand just means more grip and control over the ball. Bigger hands help QBs from not fumbling the ball, having a better grip, and just helps them have a better overall performance. However, just because a QB has big hands, doesn’t necessarily mean that they are better than the ones who don’t.

Quarterbacks with Small Hands

Here is a list of some of the quarterbacks in the NFL who have small hands;

Joe Burrow- Burrow has a hand size measurement of 9 inches but it’s safe to say that his “tiny hands,” has not affected his play at all.

Kenny Pickett- Pickett plays for the Philadelphia Eagles and his hands were measured at just 8.5 inches. Whether it’s his hand size or something else entirely, Pickett has not performed well in his NFL career so far.
Michael Vick- Vick has a hand size of 8.5 inches which is the same as Kenny Pickett. However, he had a decent career in the NFL and his small hands did not bother him much.
Taysom Hill- Hill has the smallest hands amongst all the quarterbacks in the NFL with just 8¾ inches.
