Jack Grealish Agrees Season-Long Loan Move to Everton

Jack Grealish is set to join Everton on a season-long loan from Manchester City in a bid to reignite his career and push for an England recall ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

The 29-year-old midfielder accepted Everton’s offer over the weekend and is expected to undergo a medical on Monday, aiming to feature in their Premier League opener against Leeds. The move will see Everton cover the majority of his £300,000-a-week wages, with the total cost — including a loan fee — potentially exceeding £12m. City are also keen to include a £50m option to buy, though that figure may be optimistic given Grealish’s contract situation.

Signed for a club-record £100m from Aston Villa in 2021, Grealish played a pivotal role in City’s 2023 treble-winning season. However, his influence has waned, making just seven Premier League starts last term and missing the 2024 European Championship after falling out of Pep Guardiola’s plans. He was also omitted from City’s Club World Cup squad this summer as the club prioritised finding him regular football.

Everton manager David Moyes is eager to add creativity to his squad, having already signed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Chelsea for £28m. The club remains in the market for attacking reinforcements, with Southampton rejecting three bids for teenage winger Tyler Dibling, the latest around £40m.

Grealish’s decision to move early, rather than waiting for deadline day, reflects his determination to get consistent minutes and work his way into Thomas Tuchel’s England squad. He has been training intensively with a personal coach to ensure peak fitness ahead of the new campaign.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest are close to signing City midfielder James McAtee, having improved their offer following a rejected £25m bid last month.
