Ja Morant Taunts Klay Thompson As Grizzlies Win Sparks Explosive Postgame Clash And Heated Locker Room Drama

Akash

The Memphis Grizzlies secured a 102–96 victory over the Dallas Mavericks, but the postgame drama overshadowed the box score. Ja Morant, sidelined and not playing, ignited controversy by targeting Klay Thompson in a fiery exchange that spilled beyond the court.

Morant interrupted rookie Cam Spencer’s postgame interview, pointing at him and declaring, “Tell ’em who the best shooter in the house was, it wasn’t bro from Golden State.” The remark was aimed directly at Klay Thompson, who had scored 22 points on 7-of-17 shooting, including 6-of-12 from three. Reports indicated the confrontation escalated, with Morant allegedly calling Thompson a “bum” before the two had to be separated.

On the floor, Memphis backed up Ja Morant’s words with a gritty performance. Santi Aldama led the team with 20 points, while Zach Edey dominated inside, finishing with 12 points, 15 rebounds, and four blocks. Spencer added 17 points off the bench, helping the Grizzlies overcome a frigid 26 percent shooting night from deep. Their relentless rebounding proved decisive, as Memphis crushed Dallas on the glass 61–41, including 23 offensive boards.

For Dallas, the loss was another frustrating chapter in a difficult season. Cooper Flagg contributed 12 points and seven rebounds, Brandon Williams scored 18, and P.J. Washington added 15 points with eight boards. Yet the Mavericks faltered late, dropping to 5–13 overall and 4–9 at home. Their fourth quarter was marked by one-and-done possessions, while Memphis thrived on second-chance opportunities.

Klay Thompson Responds Sharply As Locker Room Exchange With Ja Morant Intensifies

The verbal sparring between Ja Morant and Klay Thompson carried into the locker room. Initially, Thompson declined to repeat Morant’s words, but later he fired back with sharp criticism. “Nothing of intelligent depth,” Thompson said. “He was just running his mouth. He’s been running his mouth for a long time. It’s funny to run your mouth when you’re on the bench. It’s kind of the story of his career so far. Leaving us wanting more.”

Klay Thompson continued, lamenting Morant’s absence from the court. “We all want to see him out there and do his best. But he’s just been letting a lot of other stuff get in the way. We need that in the NBA. We need our best players to be out there. When you’re a star, it comes with a great responsibility. Hate to see that go to waste.”

As the Grizzlies celebrated their win, cameras caught Morant walking toward Thompson, appearing to taunt him. Thompson chose not to disclose the exact exchange, but footage showed Ja Morant calling him a “bum.”
