With the new and thrilling FIFA Club World Cup set to begin on June 14, fans are excited to watch a “World Cup”-style format for the first time ever at a global scale. Italian giants Inter Milan are drawn into Group E alongside River Plate, Urawa Red Diamonds and CF Monterrey.

Inter will begin their campaign against CF Monterrey at the Rose Bowl Stadium on Tuesday, 17 June. With Inzaghi stepping down after the UCL final, Cristian Chivu is set to replace him as the new head coach. Given the limited time before the tournament, Chivu has to hit the ground running.

The Italian club made their way into the new edition of the Club World Cup due to their UEFA coefficient ranking over the last 4 years. Their knockout appearances in the UCL campaign between 2021-2024, especially their appearance in the final of 2022, sealed them a spot at the tournament.

Inter exhibited strong performances throughout the season but failed to win any title at the end. Inzaghi’s men finished 2nd, just a single point behind Napoli in the Serie A. In the Supercoppa Italiana, Inter were beaten by their city rivals, AC Milan, 3-2 in the final. Their fate was much the same in the Coppa Italia, once again losing to AC Milan in the semi-finals, 4-1 on aggregate.

In the Champions League, they were thrashed 5-0 by PSG – biggest goal margin ever in a UCL final. Their top Serie A scorer was Marcus Thuram with 14 goals and in all competitions, it was Lautaro Martinez with 22 goals.

Inter are pushing to sign French Centre Forward Ange-Yoan Bonny before the tournament, who is a promising young talent. They are also linked with another forward, Rasmus Højlund, from Manchester United. Goalkeeper Filip Stanković is also rumored to be signed as a backup.
