The MLS Side Is Reportedly Negotiating a Transfer for a Key Argentina Star.
Inter Miami’s ambitious recruitment began with the arrival of Lionel Messi. Since then they brought in several of the Argentine legend’s teammates from Barcelona. Now it seems that the MLS side are targeting another close associate of Leo Messi, but this time from Argentina.
The latest name linked with a move to South Florida is Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodrigo De Paul. The 31-year-old Argentine midfielder is known for his relentless work ethic and ability to transition between defense and attack. He is believed to be on Inter Miami’s radar now.
The Herons recently became the first MLS club to qualify for Club World Cup knockouts. They were eliminated in the very first round – in the round of 16, as they faced the reigning Champions League winners, PSG. Even so, they continue building a squad capable of competing for the MLS Cup and beyond.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the club has already initiated talks with Atletico Madrid over a possible transfer. Reportedly, the Spanish club, however, are not willing to let him leave for free. They have placed a valuation of around €20 million on the player.
De Paul’s friendship with Messi could play a crucial role in any potential deal. The pair share a famously close bond, cultivated during Argentina’s historic run to the 2022 FIFA World Cup title. De Paul previously spoke about the friendship he shares with Messi on and off the pitch during an interview with Ole.

He said, “I love spending time with him, we have a lot of fun with all the kids.” Inter Miami, owned by Jorge Mas and David Beckham, has already succeeded in luring Messi’s former Barcelona teammates – Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba to the club.
However, both Suarez and Busquets are nearing the end of their current deals. Hence, adding De Paul could inject much-needed energy and balance into Miami’s aging midfield. Spanish reports claim the co-owner Jorge Mas recently traveled to Madrid.
This intensified the speculation of a move for the Argentine. Journalist Marcos Benito suggested discussions between the clubs are at an advanced stage. However, there has been no news from the Atleti camp. And reportedly coach Diego Simeone would prefer De Paul to stay.

De Paul’s current contract with Atleti runs until 2026. However, with only one year left after this season, the Spanish side may consider cashing in. Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano has been vocal about the need for reinforcements. De Paul’s versatility could provide a significant boost.
Especially considering the team is preparing for life in their new Freedom Park stadium from 2026. While financial details remain a hurdle, De Paul’s arrival would take forward Inter Miami’s strategy of blending star power with familiar chemistry. It’s been a formula centered around their ace Lionel Messi.
