British No. 1 Jack Draper has confirmed he will miss the remainder of the 2025 tennis season due to an arm injury, ending what had been a breakthrough year for the 23-year-old. Draper, ranked world No. 7, withdrew from the US Open ahead of his second-round match after experiencing severe pain in his upper left serving arm. Despite initial scans suggesting recovery, he announced via social media that he must rest and reset before returning to competition.

Draper’s Determination to Return Stronger

“Hi guys an update from me… Unfortunately, the injury to my arm is something I have to rest and means I’ll be sitting out the rest of 2025,” Draper wrote. “It is very difficult for me to accept, as I was building some incredible momentum this year and playing some great stuff. However, I’ve been through this before… and I always come back stronger, as I’m so motivated to fulfill my potential as a player. Huge thanks to everyone who backs me to do well and supports me on my journey. Can’t wait to get back out there and give my all. See you soon!”

The timing is particularly tough. Draper had been in contention to qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin for the first time after a stellar spring that included a runner-up finish in Madrid and his maiden Masters 1000 crown at Indian Wells. His withdrawal means that goal is off the table, and he is now expected to slip out of the world’s top 10 by year’s end.

Draper’s injury issues have been persistent. Arm pain first surfaced during the clay season and worsened after his Wimbledon second-round defeat to Marin Cilic. He had already endured long stretches on the sidelines in the past two years, missing two and a half months in 2023 with a shoulder injury and starting 2025 with a hip problem.

Despite the setback, Draper has shown self-awareness about the physical toll of his powerful game. After his US Open first-round win over Federico Agustin Gomez, he admitted to BBC Sport, “It’s surprised me a little bit that even when I do serve full out, my service numbers and my aces aren’t where I want them to be, and I think sometimes almost reining it in is not a bad thing.”
