In the Eastern Conference Semis, they booked a spot against the Cleveland Cavaliers, and began the series by pulling a 121-112 upset over the heavy favorites. The Pacers, who were heavy underdogs before the beginning of the series, pulled off an upset and defeated their rivals 4-1 to secure an Eastern Conference semifinals berth.

The Indiana Pacers remain trophy-less in their 49-year-long NBA history. They are of the active teams alongside the Denver Nuggets, the Sacramento Kings and the Toronto Raptors that have only one Finals appearance.
