‘If It’s Another Player I Will Always Choose You’ – Jannik Sinner Keeps It Classy After Beating Carlos Alcaraz at Nitto ATP Finals 2025

World No. 1 & No. 2 faced each other in six finals this year.

World No. 2 Jannik Sinner made some wholesome claims upon defeating arch rival Carlos Alcaraz to capture a second consecutive title at the Nitto ATP Finals 2025. The four-time Grand Slam champion saved a set point in the opener and overturned a break in the second set, to emerge victorious 7-6(4) 7-5 in just over two hours. After Carlitos lauded him and sent an early warning for next season, Sinner was full of respect for his colleague.

Both players started on the front foot, and looked to attack from the baseline. The power and precision of the ATP’s finest next-gen superstars was on full display at the Inalpi Arena in Turin. Despite multiple interruptions due to a member of the crowd falling ill and Alcaraz suffering from a hamstring niggle, the quality did not drop. Sinner managed to hang on under pressure, and eventually took the set in a tiebreaker.

“I thought at the beginning of the match that I could beat him, that I could compete against him here,” Alcaraz declared after the encounter. The 22-year-old Spaniard went up a break early in the second set, but could not stay in front. Sinner’s relentless change of direction forced Alcaraz to attack the net in order to shorten the points – but to no avail. “It didn’t surprise me that I was really close,” he continued.

After breaking back in the middle of the set, Sinner broke again in the decisive twelfth game to win in straight sets. He improved his head-to-head against Alcaraz to 6-10 in the process – and this does not include the Italian’s pair of successes at the Six Kings Slam. The 24-year-old is now unbeaten across 31 indoor hard courts battles – with his last loss coming against Novak Djokovic at the 2023 Nitto ATP Finals.

Alcaraz was full of appreciation towards Sinner, and also reminded him to be ready for the 2026 season. On the other hand, the reigning Wimbledon champ also congratulated his Spanish counterpart on being crowned year-end World No. 1 on Sunday. “Well deserved for the #1,” he said. “We haven’t spoken yet, but I’m extremely happy [for you].
