“I f—ing hate Rudy Gobert” – Shaquille O’Neal Tears Into Gobert’s Defense With Harsh Rant, Calls Out Lack Of Grit

Shaquille O'Neal went on an explosive rant targeting Rudy Gobert’s defensive game

Rudy Gobert has been one of the corner stone defenders for the Minnesota Timberwolves. His $205 Million contract only speaks how much the franchise believes in the player and his ability to lead them with Anthony Edwards.

However, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has had his doubts over the abilities of Rudy Gobert. Recently, the Lakers legend unleashed a savage rant, blasting the 4-time Defensive Player of the Year with no filters at all.

Shaquille O’Neal said, “I f—ing hate Rudy Gobert. He is making 250M and he doesn’t deserve it. As the President of the Big Man Alliance, you making big money, play like a big man. That’s it. Throw some bows.”

He added, “Knock some people out. Don’t be little white dudes from Denver dunk on you and talk to you. Then you got to grab them by the neck at the last second. If you going to get paid big money, play big.”

Physicality Lacking Despite Gobert’s Stature

Shaquille O’Neal’s reference particularly goes to the case where Nuggets’ Christian Braun threw a two handed slam early last season. In one of the most dominant plays, the guard raced with ball at the rim and timed his leap to perfection, hammering a thunderous dunk right over Gobert for a statement two points.

The defender didn’t like the sequence of events and physically confronted Christian Braun. This sparked a heated altercation between the teams, eventually resulting in a double technical being assessed to both sides. Gobert was caught by surprise at the rim and his lack of speed and agility drew massive criticism.

In a similar incident, Jaylen Brown dunked on Rudy two seasons ago. The Minnesota Timberwolves’ player was again caught by surprise. What was common between the two cases is Rudy Gobert not able to use his physical prowess.

At 7’1″, Rudy Gobert should be able to prevent posters like these with minimal effort and awareness. However, for that to happen, he will have to focus on his reaction speed. Remaining a passive bystander at the rim invites criticism, more so when you’re tied to a $205 million contract.
