“I apologize to the fans”-Trae Young opens up after being snubbed from the All-Star Game

Young becomes the first player in NBA history to miss the All-Star Game while averaging at least 20 points and 10 assists.

Trae Young was not happy to be left off the list of players selected for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game. After the announcement of the event’s reserves on Thursday (30), the Atlanta Hawks player took to social media to vent about his fourth absence from the event in seven years of his career.

“At this point, it’s no longer being ‘snubbed,’ but rather being ‘Trae-zoned’ (laughing emoji). I apologize to my fans. This will change at some point. All good, talk to you later,” Young wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

Trae Young is having a strong season with the Hawks

The point guard will miss the “All-Star Game” despite having an impressive season in terms of numbers. He leads the league with 11.4 assists per game (the best mark of his career) and in double-doubles with points and assists (28). He is also averaging 22.5 points per game and will be the first player in NBA history to miss the All-Star Game while averaging at least 20 points and 10 assists.

Young’s absence from the final event roster also frustrated the Hawks’ head coach, Quin Snyder. The team’s leader commented on the situation on Thursday, emphasizing the importance of the point guard to his team, especially in clutch moments.

“I feel like he’s having the best year of his career,” said the coach. “I think the stats back that up. He leads the league in assists, which already grabs attention, but then we have something as simple as points and assists in key moments. He’s not just scoring in the final moments of games; he’s also making plays with his passes.”

The 11th-year player has participated in the All-Star Game three times throughout his career – in 2020, 2022, and 2024. He averaged over 25 points in those seasons but with a lower shooting percentage compared to his current campaign. The Hawks have had solid performances with Young’s help but fell off in January. With Thursday’s loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the team suffered its seventh consecutive defeat, sitting with a record of 22 wins and 26 losses in ninth place in the Eastern Conference.

Atlanta’s next game is on Saturday (1), against the Indiana Pacers, on the road.
