After guiding the Los Angeles Dodgers to their second World Series title in five years, manager Dave Roberts has secured a record-setting contract extension.

The Dodgers and Roberts have agreed to a four-year deal worth $32.4 million, making him the highest-paid manager in terms of average annual value. The contract, which runs from 2026 to 2029, surpasses the $8 million per year Craig Counsell received from the Chicago Cubs.

Roberts, who was entering the final year of his current deal, will continue to lead the Dodgers through the 2025 season before his extension kicks in. Negotiations, which began in February, gained momentum last week, and an official announcement is expected before the team departs for Japan on March 18 to open the regular season.

The extension solidifies Roberts’ standing with the Dodgers after a postseason run that erased doubts about his job security. Following back-to-back disappointing playoff exits, he faced mounting pressure heading into last October. With their backs against the wall in the NLDS against the San Diego Padres, the Dodgers were forced to rely on a bullpen game for Game 4. Key injuries to Freddie Freeman and Miguel Rojas further complicated their situation. However, the team responded by winning the final two games of the series, then dominating the remainder of the postseason before dispatching the New York Yankees in five games to claim the championship.

Roberts, 52, will reach a decade as Dodgers manager in 2025. Notably, he was the Dodgers’ first-ever minority manager. Since taking over in 2016, he has led the team to multiple division titles, consistent playoff appearances, and now two World Series rings.
