Sabrina Ionescu dominated the WNBA 3-Point Contest, but what she did after winning is what stole the spotlight

The WNBA All-Star Weekend began with all eyes on the 3-point contest, where Sabrina Ionescu once again showed why she’s the league’s top shooter, beating a talented field in style.

Kelsey Plum, Lexie Hull, Allisha Gray and Sonia Citron also took part in the contest. It wasn’t a surprise to see the New York Liberty star win, especially since she once competed in the same three-point showdown against Steph Curry just a few years ago.

Sabrina Ionescu scored 30 points and had no close competition between her. Rookie Sonia Citron was a standout too, scoring 19 points in the opening round to grab attention. The Washington Mystics player is also the only rookie to take part in the WNBA all star weekend.

What Is the Prize Money for the WNBA 3-Point Contest?

The WNBA 3-Point Contest awarded a $60,000 prize to the winner. Sabrina Ionescu earned the full amount after her dominant performance during the Friday night shootout at the All-Star weekend. However, notably, the New York Liberty player will not take a penny from the prize money for herself.

Ionescu pledged that she will donate half of the $60,000 to her foundation, SI20. It is a platform that dedicates efforts towards giving youth from all backgrounds an equal access to sports. The Three point queen also suggested that the other half of the prize money will go to Sonia Citron.

Ionescu praised Citron for not only her strong shooting performance but also her courage to perform under pressure at such a young age. Citron has also been shooting 36.5 percent from the deep for her side this season.

How Much Is the Prize Money for WNBA Skills Challenge?

Natasha Cloud claimed victory in the WNBA Skills Challenge, outperforming Erica Wheeler in a tightly contested battle. The prize money for her event was $57,575. $55,000 came from Aflac, the event’s corporate sponsor and $2,575 was provided by the WNBA itself.
