Houston Rockets vs Tornonto Raptors Preview

The Rockets enter this contest on the back of five consecutive losses, their latest being a 127-114, 13-point drubbing against the Minnesota Timberwolves.  The Rockets were without Fred VanVleet, who is suffering from an ankle injury. In his absence, Amen Thompson took on the role of the team’s ball handler alongside Jalen Green. Green scored 29 points on the night, along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Alperen Sengun tallied a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and he was impactful in drawing attention, allowing Green to get open looks from long range, where he finished with 7 assists.

Four of the five players in the starting lineup scored at least 15 points. VanVleet will miss the game against the Raptors, which means Tari Eason will continue to start, and Cam Whitmore and Reed Sheppard will get additional minutes coming off the bench alongside Jae’Sean Tate.

The Raptors are also in a bit of a slump, having lost three games in a row, their latest being a 121-109 loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Toronto has been hit by a series of injuries to key players RJ Barrett and Jakob Poeltl, both of whom missed the game against the Thunder. The Raptors acquired Brandon Ingram from the Pelicans, and he is likely to make his Raptors debut on Sunday against the Rockets. Ingram is averaging 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game.

Barrett, Poeltl, and Ingram could all return against the Rockets, which would send Gradey Dick, Ochai Agbaji, and J Mogbo to the bench. The Raptors’ recent away record has been much better; they have won three of their last five away games, averaging 113.2 points offensively and allowing 109.2 points defensively.

Houston Rockets vs Tornonto Raptors – Final Prediction

This is the second time the Rockets and Raptors are facing off this season. The Rockets squeaked out a win in their first matchup (110-114), but the Raptors have generally had the better of them lately, winning three of their last five.  If Ingram’s playing on Sunday, the Rockets are gonna have a tough time, no doubt, but they’ve got home-court advantage.  We’re going with the Rockets for the win, and predict the total score will land somewhere between 220 and 230.
