Young Guns Rune and Arnaldi Face Off at Queen’s Club
Fourth seed Holger Rune begins his Queen’s Club Championships campaign today against fellow rising talent Matteo Arnaldi. The Dane is coming off a confidence-boosting title run in Barcelona, where he stunned world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets. Arnaldi, meanwhile, has been turning heads with consistent performances this season, though the Italian is still seeking his breakthrough ATP title.

Rune’s season has been inconsistent with a few shining moments. After a fourth-round exit in Melbourne, he reached finals in Indian Wells and Barcelona, clinching the latter by beating Carlos Alcaraz, Karen Khachanov, and Casper Ruud. Outside those runs, he hasn’t gone beyond the round of 16. Stat-wise, Rune has hit 106 aces, won 70% of first-serve points, and converted 41% of 218 break points.

Arnaldi, meanwhile, has been more consistent but is still chasing his first ATP title. His best result came with a semifinal run in Delray, along with quarterfinal runs in Dallas, Madrid, and Geneva. The Italian has fired 178 aces, won 71% of first-serve points, and converted 40% of 187 break point chances.
Holger Rune holds the early advantage in his head-to-head with Matteo Arnaldi, 1-0, having defeated the Italian in straight sets during their only prior meeting at the 2024 Paris Masters. As they prepare to clash for just the second time, the stakes are simple: Rune aims to assert control, while Arnaldi is out to level the score and continue his campaign in London.
| Year | Event | Round | Winner | Score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 | Paris | Round of 64 | Holger Rune | 6-4, 6-4 |
| Holger Rune | Category | Matteo Arnaldi |
| 9 | Ranking | 41 |
| 159-97 | Career W-L | 63-58 |
| 20-12 | YTD W-L | 15-14 |
| 5 | Career Titles | 0 |
| 0 | Grand Slams | 0 |
| 1 | YTD Titles | 0 |
Rune’s bigger-match experience and past win over Arnaldi give him the edge. While the Italian has been solid this season, Rune’s ceiling is simply higher, especially if he brings the level he showed in Barcelona.

Prediction: Holger Rune in straight sets
With Rune listed at 1/4 and Arnaldi at 29/10, the bookmakers clearly back the Dane to advance. Given his head-to-head lead and stronger run, though, Arnaldi could keep it close if he serves well.
Here are the betting odds according to BetMGM:
Holger Rune: 1/4
Matteo Arnaldi: 29/10
