Heat vs. Cavaliers: Cavs Advance to Conference Semifinals with the Most Lopsided Series Win in NBA Playoff history

The Cavaliers will take either the Pacers or the Bucks in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Cleveland Cavaliers advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals after a record-breaking 138-83 win in Game 4 against the Miami Heat. With this win, they made eighth clean sweep in the playoffs in last 10 years and first against the Heat. Miami’s 55-point blowout loss also registered in the NBA record books. It was one of most embarrassing playoff series defeats for the Heat in their franchise history.

The Cavaliers outscored the Heat by 122 points in the first-round playoffs series. It’s the most lopsided playoff series in NBA history, surpassing Lakers’ 106 points record in 1986. Donovan Mitchell scored 22 points, and De’Andre Hunter added 19. The Cavaliers led by as many as 60 points and it would have been the largest playoff win in the league history but Miami escaped from another embarrassing playoff record.

Cavs Record Third Largest Playoff Win in NBA History, Decimate Miami at Kaseya Center

The Cavaliers entered the fixture with a 37-point blowout win in Game 3 and it feels like they came to break their own numbers. The Cavs, top seed in East, outscored the Heat 43-17 through an early 33-5 run in the first quarter. The 26-point margin matched the worst quarter in Miami’s playoff history. Cavs also had the second-best margin for any quarter in franchise playoff history.

Cleveland stretched their lead to 39 points at halftime which is also the third-largest lead after two quarters in NBA playoff history. It was second-largest for the Cavs as they held 41-point lead over the Celtics in 2017. In second half, Miami controlled their defense to avoid biggest humiliation in the NBA history. If we talk about Game 4, Cavs’ 55-point margin remains the fourth-largest Game 4 win in the league history.

Ty Jerome added 18 points, Evan Mobley had 17 and Jarrett Allen chipped in 14 points, 12 rebounds and six steals in the victory. Nikola Jovic was the top scorer for the Heat with 24 points. Ban Adebayo added 13 points, while Pelle Larsson and Andrew Wiggins each added 12 For Miami, who faced a playoff sweep for the third and the previous instance came in 2021 against the Bucks.

“We came down here with the right mentality and again, our maturity, our leadership, all that stuff we’ve been talking about all year,” Cavs coach Kenny Atkinson said. “We don’t seem to have letdowns. That’s rare.”

The Cavaliers will take either the Pacers or the Bucks in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Currently, the Pacers have taken a 3-1 lead in the series and they are on the verge of eliminating the Bucks, who will enter Game 5 without Damian Lillard.
