Grizzlies to trade Ja Morant? NBA Insider drops shocking claims on Morant’s Memphis future

Garima Ranawat

Morant is averaging 20.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game this season.

While the NBA world is still trying to get over the shocking Luka Doncic trade to the Los Angeles Lakers, they must get ready for another unexpected move. As per an NBA executive, the Memphis Grizzlies might move Ja Morant in case the team fails to move far in the playoffs.

Notably, the trade of Doncic to the Lakers opened endless opportunities for even elite players to get traded anytime, and it seems that the Grizzlies are adding themselves into the list.

According to The Ringer’s Howard Beck, the executive has claimed that the franchise currently sitting in the second spot of the Western Conference standings might make a bold move depending on their playoff performance.

As per Beck, the executive said, “I’m constantly checking in with executives around trade deadline about like, okay, what we saw, what we didn’t see, what’s next, and in this league, you are always, always, always on the lookout for who’s the next wave of stars that are going to get dealt, right?”

The Grizzlies selected Ja Morant in the 2019 NBA Draft, and he was named Rookie of the Year in 2020. In 2022-23, Morant signed a five-year contract extension with the team. Throughout his career, he has consistently posted impressive stats, but his journey has been overshadowed by a series of controversies, injuries, and suspensions.

However, there is no doubt that he has played a key role in the Grizzlies’ success. As per the executive, there is no fixed plan of the franchise to trade Morant, and could depend only on their performance in the playoffs.

Boston Celtics frontrunner to acquire Ja Morant- Report

A few other reports doing rounds in the media suggest that among several potential landing spots for Morant, including Orlando, Houston and Miami, another name is emerging as a frontrunner, reigning champions Boston Celtics.

As per the reports, Morant would be a vital addition to their roster as they aim for their consecutive titles. As per BVM Sports, General Manager of the second-seeded Eastern Conference team, Brad Stevens, is pondering over the thought of trading Jrue Holiday to seal the deal.

While trading Holiday might affect their success, considering he is known for his sharp defense skills, it is to be seen if the rumors remain rumors for the entire season.
