Memphis Grizzlies continue their rebuild with the buyout of Cole Anthony, clearing cap space
The Memphis Grizzlies are really making the roster blow-up with all the departures. After trading Desmond Bane, the front office is going into full rebuild mode with getting first round picks, and young faces in place of current players.
Cole Anthony becomes the next casualty of Memphis’ aggressive roster shake-up. The Grizzlies have agreed to a contract buyout for the point guard, which removes his $13.1 million salary from the upcoming season’s books. The move frees up significant luxury tax room, allowing the Grizzlies to stretch more than $10 million of Anthony’s guaranteed money across multiple seasons.
The 25-year-old arrived in Memphis as part of the Desmond Bane trade but was promptly bought out by the front office. This move also allows the front office to renegotiate and extend Jaren Jackson Jr. As of now, the Grizzlies have Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. as their cornerstone towards a rebuild.
