Golden State Warriors Sign Veteran Al Horford in a Multi-Year Deal

The Golden State Warriors signed veteran Al Horford in a significant NBA offseason move. As per reports by Shams Charania of ESPN, Horford has committed to a multi-year deal with the seven-time champions. Charania reported that Horford gave his verbal commitment to the Warriors on Sunday. His financial terms will be finalized after their decision regarding restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga.

The veteran big man heads to the Warriors after spending an impressive seven seasons with the Boston Celtics. The 2024 champion has been linked to the Warriors for most of the season, and is the first free agent to land with the Dubs.

The star center enters the 2025-26 season with an average of 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 27.7 minutes per game. He was shooting 42.3% from the field, 36.3% from the three-point range, and 89.5% from the free-throw line.

The 39-year-old is one of the latest members of the 2024 championship to leave the Celtics. Earlier, the franchise traded Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis, while Luke Kornet moved to the San Antonio Spurs. Jayson Tatum also sits out for an undisclosed amount of time during the 2025-26 season after his Achilles injury during the last season’s playoffs.

The five-time NBA All-Star bid farewell to the Boston Celtics, where he spent seven seasons in the last nine years with stops in between at the Philadelphia 76ers and Oklahoma City Thunder. “From the moment we arrived, you have welcomed my family and I with open arms,” Horford wrote on X.

After being drafted third overall by the Atlanta Hawks in 2007 NBA Drafts, Horford quickly made a name for himself and became a key player for the team. Known for his defensive prowess and versatility, Horford earned All-Star selections and helped the franchise reach the playoffs multiple times. His move to the Boston Celtics came in 2016, where he solidified his reputation as one of the most reliable players in the league.

In his second stint with the Celtics, he played a critical role to guide the side to their 18th championship in 2024. While his shooting stats may have dipped in the last season, the Puerto Plata-born remains one of the most efficient players. He gives the Dubs a stretch big man with 108 or more threes in each of the last three seasons. He is expected to start for the Warriors, giving Steve Kerr’s side a tough defensive frontcourt alongside Draymond Green.
