Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings Reportedly Close to Finalizing Jonathan Kuminga Trade!

More than a month after the official start of NBA free agency, it finally appears that Jonathan Kuminga is close to a new contract. According to Forbes NBA expert Evan Sidery, the Sacramento Kings are close to agreeing to a sign-and-trade with the Golden State Warriors. According to Sidery, all the Kings need to do is send an unprotected 2030 first-round pick.

Additionally, point guard Malik Monk is also reportedly involved in the Warriors’ trade package. Thus, Sacramento is currently Kuminga’s closest destination for the next few years of his career. In fact, according to reports, this is the player’s preferred destination , as he is expected to earn more than the $45 million over two years proposed by the Warriors and will have a clearer chance of starting.

If the Kings remove protection from their 2030 first-round pick offered to the Warriors for Jonathan Kuminga, the trade will be done.

It appears Kuminga to Sacramento could become the most likely end outcome here.

However, the Kings would still have to accept Golden State’s demands. Sending an unprotected draft pick means the Warriors would have control over Sacramento’s pick five seasons from now. So, regardless of how bad the Kings’ season is—they will no longer have their current veteran core—the pick will go to the San Francisco franchise.

Will Jonathan Kuminga raise his standard in 2025-26 season?

The 22-year-old wing spent his first four seasons in Golden State, where he emerged as a key player for the franchise’s future. However, after improving in his third year, he underperformed last season and was left out of coach Steve Kerr’s rotation. As a result, his value was lower for a renewal with the Warriors, who offered less than Kuminga desired.

A restricted free agent, the winger can listen to offers from any team. However, given his asking price, the only way to leave the Warriors is via a sign-and-trade, which would allow teams without cap space to sign him, as they would have to send other contracts in exchange.

Business aside, he can contribute to both Golden State and Sacramento, but in different roles. This is because he could be a key reserve for the Warriors, on a more veteran team in the marathon that is the NBA season . Kuminga would come off the bench and be an important player at the position, in addition to bringing youth.

On the other hand, with the Kings, he’ll have a better chance of starting, but nothing is guaranteed. Sacramento boasts Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Keegan Murray, all starting forwards who start ahead of the former Golden State forward.
