Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo remained one of the most talked-about topics ever since the beginning of the NBA 2025-26 season. While it was anticipated that Antetokounmpo would be traded, he remained with his original team even after the February 5, 2026 trade deadline. No deal was made despite intense speculation and reported offers from top contenders.
Around the deadline, ESPN reported that the Bucks didn’t feel the urgency to move the Greek Freak. The reports further suggested that both sides are now expected to reexamine a potential deal during the offseason. The 31-year-old, who has been limited to only 30 games this season due to injuries, is eligible to sign a contract extension October 1. He has a player option for the 2027-28 season, which means he has only one more guaranteed year on his contract.
The 2021 champion, who has been currently sidelined with a calf strain, has otherwise played at an MVP level when he is on the floor. He is averaging 28.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game while shooting 64.5% from the field and 39.5% from the deep. Despite his team’s inconsistency, Greek Freak’s production signifies why the team isn’t willing to let go of him.

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Potential Landing Spots This Summer
The Milwaukee Bucks, current team of Giannis Antetokounmpo, are the clear favorites to keep him even after the offseason trades. Antetokounmpo has been with the team ever since the beginning of his career, and while he has expressed his frustration and prioritized winning, the 31-year-old has been loyal to the team. In addition to it, the side held him firm during the trade deadline, and a couple of new drafts or picks at the 2026 Draft could compel him to sign the extension.
The Minnesota Timberwolves emerged as a top contender to land Antetokounmpo during the trade deadline. The Wolves are known for their defensive-oriented and young core, which could end up appealing to Antetokounmpo and offer immediate contention.
The Golden State Warriors were another top contending team that showed interest in signing Antetokounmpo during the deadline. With Stephen Curry pairing potential, the interest of Greek Freak to land with the Dubs could reignite during the summer. We could see the seven-time champions reconstructing a new roster around Curry and Antetokounmpo for their one last title run over the next two seasons.
Giannis Antetokounmpo was almost on the Bulls a year ago but the franchise front office declined to pursue a deal. So, there could be chances that the Bulls attempt to revamp the deal that couldn’t go through. However, considering their odds, the Bulls are not as close to contending as the Wolves and the Dubs.
Apart from them, teams such as the Miami Heat, New York Knicks, Portland Trail Blazers, Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors remain speculative landing spots. However, they aren’t as favored as the aforementioned teams.
