“Get Kind of Sick Easier Now”- Bronny James Reveals Health Struggles Following Cardiac Arrest

Los Angeles Lakers guard and son of LeBron James, Bronny James, opened up on his health struggles since suffering cardiac arrest. James suffered cardiac arrest while practising before his USC debut in July 2023. He was later diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, a curable heart condition. With intense care and rehabilitation process, James not only went on to debut for USC but also booked himself a spot in the NBA.

As he gears up for his sophomore season, the youngster opened up on his struggles and revealed the lingering effects of his heart condition. James revealed how the medical condition had a direct impact on his immunity, saying that now he falls ill easily. He told ESPN, “I get kind of sick easier now. Which is kind of weird, but I think it messed with my immune system a little bit. So, I would have times where I have to sit out, and that conditioning that I’m working on just goes away in that week of me being out.”

A few months after his cardiac arrest, James Jr. got selected 55th overall last summer and got some time on the floor. However, the 20-year-old didn’t have a dream-rookie season. He played in a total of 27 games for the Lakers and finished the season with an average of 2.3 points, 0.7 rebounds, and 0.8 assists. He spent most of his season playing with the Lakers’ G-League affiliated team and averaged 21.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.5 assists.

Bronny James and his father, LeBron James, scripted NBA history when they became the first father-son duo to play together in the league. However, despite being a part of a historic moment, younger James doesn’t like to rewatch his first game. Revealing the reason behind it, he said, “I just think that if you know me, I don’t really like the spotlight in big moments. I mean, it was a great experience to be part of because it was the first son-father duo.”

He added, “But I’m a chill guy. I don’t like [all that]. It comes with it. But yeah, I don’t really like to go back. I mean, I’ll watch my good performances where I have some minutes under my belt, but I’m not going to go and watch that.” Notably, USC alum’s first NBA game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, where the Lakers recorded a 110-103 win.
