Frances Tiafoe vs. Yosuke Watanuki Head-to-Head, Prediction, and Betting Odds for ATP National Bank Open 2025 Second Round

Rudra Dubey

Frances Tiafoe and Yosuke Watanuki square off in a second-round rematch in Toronto.

Seventh seed Frances Tiafoe will open his Toronto campaign against qualifier Yosuke Watanuki in the second round of the National Bank Open. The American received a first-round bye, while Watanuki battled past Daniel Altmaier in three sets to earn his spot.

Tiafoe’s year has been a mixed bag. He reached the final in Houston, falling to Jenson Brooksby in straight sets, and made his deepest-ever Grand Slam run with a quarterfinal finish at Roland Garros. Most recently, he made another quarterfinal in Washington before being stopped by Ben Shelton. Statistically, Tiafoe has fired 275 aces, won 74% of first-serve points, 28% on first-serve return, and converted 38% of 475 break point opportunities.

Watanuki, meanwhile, has found most of his rhythm on the ATP Challenger Tour this year. He’s posted strong showings with a semifinal run in Gwangju and quarterfinal runs in Canberra and Newport. His ATP main draw outings have been leaner, but his fourth-round breakthrough in Indian Wells, his first at a Masters 1000, was a major milestone. In main draw matches, he’s tallied 38 aces and won 79% of first-servepoints butt converted just 27% of 26 break point chances.

Frances Tiafoe vs. Yosuke Watanuki Head-to-Head Record

Frances Tiafoe and Yosuke Watanuki are locked at 1-1 in their head-to-head, setting up a quietly intriguing decider. Tiafoe struck first in 2023 at Miami, edging past the Japanese in three sets. But Watanuki got his revenge earlier this season in Indian Wells, where he stunned the American in straight sets to level the rivalry.

Frances Tiafoe vs. Yosuke Watanuki Prediction

Tiafoe’s experience and power should give him the edge, but if he starts slow, as he’s been known to, Watanuki has the shot tolerance and confidence to push this deep. Still, expect Tiafoe to come through.
