Frances Tiafoe vs. Martin Damm Preview, Prediction, and Betting Odds for US Open 2025 Round – 2

Rudra Dubey

Tiafoe’s experience meets Damm’s ambition in second-round US Open clash.

The 17th seed Frances Tiafoe is set to clash with qualifier Martin Damm Jr. today in the second round of the US Open. Damm came through with an upset over wildcard Darwin Blanch, while Tiafoe took care of business against Yoshihito Nishioka in straight sets, including a tight second-set tiebreak.

For Tiafoe, 2025 has been more of a grind than a breakthrough. He bowed out in the second round of the Australian Open after a five-set battle with Fabian Marozsan and, more often than not, has struggled to push beyond the third round at big events. Still, there have been bright spots like a runner-up finish in Houston, a career-best Roland Garros quarterfinal, and another quarterfinal in Washington. His most recent stop in Cincinnati ended with a third-round loss to Holger Rune. Statistically, his serve remains a weapon with 322 aces this season with 74% of first-serve points won, but his return game has lagged behind, converting just 38% of break chances across 330 opportunities.

As for Damm Jr., the 21-year-old qualifier is still carving out his path on tour. Turning pro in 2020, he has yet to lift an ATP trophy but has collected seven ITF titles. Tennis runs in his blood, as his father, Martin Damm Sr., was the 2006 US Open doubles champion alongside Leander Paes. This year, Damm has picked up ITF titles in Sharm El Sheikh and Elvas, with runner-up finishes in Tbilisi, Vaasa, and another Sharm El Sheikh event. He also reached the semifinals at the Kachreti Challenger but otherwise faced early exits, including in Miami qualifying.

Frances Tiafoe vs. Martin Damm Prediction

Frances Tiafoe has shown inconsistency this season, but against a young qualifier still finding his footing on the ATP stage, the American’s experience and firepower should be enough to carry him through in straight sets.

Prediction: Frances Tiafoe in straight sets

My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
